20 years ago today (January 11), Aaliyah padded her resume as an icon for music in the 90’s & 00’s by releasing the single “I Don’t Wanna”. The replay value of the song has been verified through the likes of hip hop stars such as Lil Wayne and Tory Lanez.

The song can be streamed legally online and is apart of the few singles available in that fashion due to her former label locking away all of her post R. Kelly albums and singles. Produced & written by the Noontime crew consisting of Donnie Scantz, Kevin Hicks, Johnta Austin and Jazze Pha, “I Don’t Wanna” was originally included on the soundtrack to Next Friday, released on December 7, 1999. At the same time, Aaliyah had just finished filming her debut acting role in the Jet Li-starring action flick Romeo Must Die while also executive producing the film’s soundtrack alongside Timbaland.

The song was apart of Kanye West’s remakes of secular songs into gospel music by his “Sunday Service” choir. The song still inspires a whole new generation of fans in entertainment as seen in the video below.
