(WWETV Network) It’s that time of year again in the city of Toronto where the West Indies is celebrated with the annual Toronto Caribbean Carnival aka Caribana. People from all over the world come to the city to join the 2 million plus fans of the festivities. The event originated in 1967 and took the tradition of Trinidad & Tobago’s Carnival as a gift to Canada’s growing West Indian population at the time.
During this era, the civil rights movement was at its peak, and North America was celebrating black culture. Pivotal icons in history such as Malcolm X, Harry Belafonte, and Muhammad Ali were visiting Canada.
WorldWide Entertainment TV helps celebrate this annual event by having “The Soca Queen” Alison Hinds as the “WorldWide Artist Of The Week”. In an exclusive that aired on Apple TV and Roku via Nu Television Network 2 years ago, WWETV was on sight for Hinds exclusive performance in Toronto. The event was entitled “Yowronto” and helped to celebrate Canada 150.
