Black History Month - WWETV Admin

Angela James was women’s hockey’s first superstar and remains the only black player to captain Canada at the senior level.

She is considered to be the “Wayne Gretzky Of Woman’s Hockey”, but she is hardly ever mentioned with the great name of sport. Since we are celebrating heroes for black history month, one should remember the accolades and contribution of James to the advancement of women in the world of hockey.

James started playing street hockey at eight, and ice hockey in the local boys’ league at nine. According to an article on Sportsnet she said, “I played one season, then all of a sudden the executive felt that girls shouldn’t play hockey”.

Toronto female rapper, Freekeysha, gives a brilliant tribute and delivers through lyricism how much impact Angela James provided for the sport.
