LEGENDS & ICONS OF HIP HOP - Wanda Davidson Post

We first heard of AZ from the classic hip hop album by Nas with Illmatic in 1994. As the Queensbridge native made a name for himself of the project, the album also exposed the rap world to AZ. Anthony Cruz awed fans with his lyrics on the memorable  “Life’s a Bitch” single. It resonated with hip hop fans in hoods around the world in the 90’s.

The rap game was seeing a new breed of hip hop as the east coast and west coast along with the south was now bringing new elements to hip hop. The career of AZ soon after the album Do or Die was launched as he impressed record executives and would ink a deal with EMI. The collaboration of Nas and  AZ would continue as they provided fans the collaborative team effort along with Foxy Brown and Nature as super group The Firm.

Fans will now get the opportunity to see the story of AZ in an upcoming documentary called Jewels, Gems & Treasures. His story will be enhanced with appearances from Nas, 50 Cent, legendary producer Buckwild and former EMI executive Daniel Glass, who signed AZ to his first record deal.

“AZ would say some slippery shit,” 50 says in the trailer, while Nas adds, “He created a lane for himself. He didn’t want to go where anybody else went, where I went, where this guy went.”

Buckwild chips in with, “A lot of cats that I know from around the world look at AZ like, ‘Yo, he’s one of the coldest rappers ever.’”

Fans can listen to AZ’s latest in 2021. Check out some of the hip hop heavyweights on the project Do Or Die II with Lil Wayne, Rick Ross, 2 Chainz and Conway The Machine, plus production from The Alchemist, Pete Rock and Rockwilder.
