Phylicia Rashad got hear over Cosby statement as students wanted her to be fired.
With the mixed reactions to Bill Cosby’s release, it was expected that Rashad would receive some backlash for her support of Cosby. Her stating he was innocent did not sit well with a few students at Howard University, where she teaches, as some wanted her terminated from her position.
Ffellow ’90s TV mom Janet Hubert called her out for her statement as well. “Phylicia what are you thinking!!!” Janet Hubert says while criticizing Phylicia Rashad. “I don’t know you but to say this was terribly wrong. EVERYONE knew what he was doing back then. How could you NOT! Get your umbrella sista here comes the shit shower. I am outraged that he has been released. Yes he is an old ass guilty man!”
“I would have said he’s old he’s out and I’m happy for him,” Hubert continues, “but he still …guilty. I know 5 women who have not come forward. Enough Ya’ll we know better. Powerful men do wrong things, black or white…”
“My remarks were in no way directed towards survivors of sexual assault. I vehemently oppose sexual violence, find no excuse for such behavior, and I know that Howard University has a zero-tolerance policy toward interpersonal violence,” she wrote.
I fully support survivors of sexual assault coming forward. My post was in no way intended to be insensitive to their truth. Personally, I know from friends and family that such abuse has lifelong residual effects. My heartfelt wish is for healing.

Cosby, however, acknowledged the drama on Twitter after singer Stephanie Mills shared her support for Rashad. “If it’s true that Howard University wants to terminate her Position because they feel her comments about Mr. Cosby were insensitive, then they should give back the millions of dollars that he donated to the university,” she wrote.
Cosby didn’t elaborate any further but he seemingly agreed with Mills’ sentiment, writing, “Thank you @iamstephaniemills your voice has always been powerful!”
