Everyone in the ’80s knew about the marriage between Bobby Brown and Whitney Houston, but the singer also reveals he had love for singer Janet Jackson.

Janet Jackson who was also married in the ’80s to fellow singer James DeBarge, had Bobby Brown crushing on her through interviews.  In a 1989 interview with BET’s Video Soul, he told Donnie Simpson the following, “As you know I’m madly in love with her [Jackson] and can’t be with her.” He later expanded in his memoir Every Little Step, writing:

I really fell for Ms. Jackson. I never usually fall for women that fast, but she was an exception. Maybe it had something to do with my childhood crush; or maybe it was because she was one of the finest and most sought-after women in the world at the time. I don’t know what it was, but she had me open!

A few years ago BET ran a miniseries that starred Woody McClain as Brown, which revealed the iconic singer’s affection for Jackson(played by Cree David). Their alleged affair was short-lived, with Jackson being married to her second husband at the time while simultaneously being romantically involved with Brown.

Bobby Brown’s documentary is set to air on A&E Networks tomorrow, May 30. Per the channel, in the two-part series, Brown is set to confront “his very personal yet very public struggles.” The 53-year-old will recount his journey in the music industry from the start, as well as touch on other subjects in his life.

Bobby has admitted that before he said “I Do,” he was very nervous. Brown’s current wife, Alicia Etheredge-Brown, was at the ceremony and recalled what took place in the upcoming tell-all.

Bobby recalls locking himself inside the bathroom on his wedding day. Alicia said, “My friend was talking to his fiancé and had mentioned that Bob didn’t want to come out of the bathroom.” She explained that the groom-to-be had gotten “the jitters” and refused to leave the restroom. Bobby chimed in, “I was in there drinking… smoking… sniffing.”

According to Brown, the reason things went south was due to his bad-boy image. He was an alleged womanizer and also had run-ins with the law. Additionally, his performance style on stage wasn’t viewed as PG. He says Jackson’s overprotective father Joe Jackson would not approve of their relationship.

“But the reason me and Janet broke off was because she couldn’t be with a man like myself. I’m from the projects,” he claims. “I’m hood. And her father wouldn’t allow her to be with someone like me. Janet was the crush of my life.”

Jackson has never addressed Brown’s claims.  The two did appear on the cover of Fresh Magazine together, with the headline: “Janet and Bobby! Together on Top!” Other than that, Jackson has ignored the chatter regarding their alleged relationship.
