Two Toronto men have been arrested for the weekend shooting of an innocent 12-year-old boy and three others in North York.
The men were arrested in a “dynamic scene” at Bay and Dundas Sts. around 5 p.m. Monday, Chief James Ramer said Tuesday. They were confronted by police officers when they exited the Canadian Tire store and surrendered immediately. Three loaded firearms were seized in the arrest, he said.
Rashawn Chambers, 24, and Jahwayne Smart, 25, face 28 charges including six counts of attempted murder and appeared in court Tuesday morning.
Police also believe the accused may be involved in a separate shooting late in the evening on Nov. 4 at 390 Driftwood Ave. that also “endangered the lives of many innocent people.” The pair have not yet been charged in that incident or in a third that is being investigated in conjunction with Bradford Police.
The source said Jahwayne Smart’s brother was Jahvante Smart, a popular underground rapper from Regent Park who performed as Smoke Dawg before he was killed in a daylight double shooting on Queen Street West in June 2018.
