Chicago police shoot, kill man in standoff

A person was shot and killed during a standoff with police Friday morning in the West Garfield Park neighborhood, officials said according to Chicago Sun Times.

Chicago police said members of the U.S. Marshals and Cook County Sheriff’s Police Fugitive Task Force were conducting an investigation when they discovered a wanted man inside a vehicle around 9:40 a.m. in the 100 block of S. Kilpatrick in the 11th District.

The task force called for assistance and Chicago police officers arrived at the scene.

The man was transported to Mt. Sinai Hospital, where he was ultimately pronounced dead. No officers were struck by gunfire in the incident, but several were taken to area hospitals for evaluation.

“Currently, the specifics of this incident, including the comprehensive use of force investigation, are being investigated by the Civilian Office of Police Accountability with the full cooperation of the Chicago Police Department,” the Chicago Police Department said in a statement.
