Childish Gambino is being accused of allegedly stealing the song “This Is America.”
Grammy Award-winning song “This Is America” by Childish Gambino is under fire as the artist is being accused of ripping off the single. A lawsuit was filed by Emelike Nwosuocha, who performs under the stage name Kidd Wes. His single “Made In America,” was released two years prior.
Kidd Wes claims “This Is America” is almost the same as his chorus from “Made In America” which the lyrical theme and flow also have similarities. In the legal documents, Nwosuocha states it is “unmistakably substantially similar, if not practically identical” to his. He believes he was intentionally ripped off after his song was uploaded to SoundCloud for free in 2016. It was subsequently registered with the U.S Copyright Office in May 2017.
The lawsuit labels Childish Gambino, the co-writers of the song, and the labels that released it the single along with other parties involved in the project for damages. Young Thug was also included in the lawsuit due to providing background vocals.
Kidd Wes recently posted about his admiration for the late DMX on his social media. Apparently the artist opened a show for the legendary hip hop artist. He also recently posted the news and tagged Danny Glover to let him know he is seeking retribution for what he believes was stolen from him.
