Could we see an expansion of Creed franchise into its own universe similar to how 50 Cent has expanded his Power Universe?
According to Deadline, Michael B. Jordan and Amazon reportedly plan to continue the movie sequels’ plot across movies and television projects. The news comes as Creed III made history at the box office, earning $58.7 million in its opening weekend in North America. Although the conversations are still in the exploratory stages, an anime series could be on the horizon.
POTENTIAL PROJECTS FOR CREED
Other alleged ideas include a live-action television series, and a potential project focusing on Adonis Creed’s daughter, Amara, who is played by deaf actress Mila Davis-Kent in Creed III and her big-screen debut.
“Building the Creed universe is something that I’m really excited about,” Jordan told Deadline ahead of the latest film release.
DRAGO SPINOFF
A previously announced Drago spinoff movie is already in the works at MGM. That project centers on Rocky Balboa’s foe, Ivan Drago, and his son Viktor Drago who was introduced as Creed’s antagonist in Creed II.
In February 2023, Jordan, 36, shared with IGN and confirmed that a fourth film was happening “for sure,” adding, “I just want to expand the Creed-verse within reason, but definitely expect other things around Creed for sure.”
For now, fans can enjoy the entire trilogy as the star actor’s directorial debut plays in theaters. Watch the final trailer for Creed III below.
“Creed” is a sports drama film directed by Ryan Coogler and released in 2015. The movie is a spin-off and continuation of the “Rocky” film series and stars Michael B. Jordan as Adonis “Donnie” Johnson Creed, the son of Apollo Creed, Rocky Balboa’s former boxing rival and friend.
ORIGIN STORY OF CREED
The film follows Donnie as he decides to follow in his father’s footsteps and pursue a career in boxing. He seeks out Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone) to be his trainer and mentor, and together they work to get Donnie ready for his first professional fight. Along the way, Donnie faces personal struggles and fights to establish his own identity as a boxer, rather than just being known as Apollo Creed’s son.
The film received critical acclaim for its direction, performances, and story. Michael B. Jordan’s portrayal of Donnie was particularly praised, as was Stallone’s return to the Rocky Balboa character. The movie also features strong supporting performances from Tessa Thompson as Donnie’s love interest and Phylicia Rashad as his adoptive mother.
“Creed” was a commercial success, grossing over $173 million worldwide. It spawned two sequels, “Creed II” (2018) and “Creed III” (scheduled for release in 2023).
