Jussie Smollett charges were dropped by Cook County prosecutors on March 26. That outcome left many Americans questioning why the 36-year-old Empire star was not convicted for allegedly arranging a fake hate crime attack against himself.
Despite spending months declaring the numerous federal, congressional, and state investigations into his own alleged infractions were part of a “witch hunt,” Donald Trump now wants the Justice Department to investigate Smollett. The President of the United States addressed the situation on Twitter.
“FBI & DOJ to review the outrageous Jussie Smollett case in Chicago. It is an embarrassment to our Nation!” Trump tweeted to his 59 million Twitter followers on Thursday morning.
Smollett was indicted on 16 felony counts for filing a false police report. After performing community service and forfeiting a $10,000 bond, the case was sealed and the record involving the matter was wiped clean. He still maintains his innocence.
