BEEF TRIANGLE: PUSHA T VS. DRAKE VS. YE
Drake and Pusha T have been in a low key rivalry over the years, but in 2018 it came roaring from the underground into the mainstream when Drake dropped “Duppy Freestyle”. During the single he went at Pusha T because Pusha dropped a song about Drake having a ghostwriter which flies in the face of Drake being a ghostwriter for Ye. It seemed like in Drake’s opinion Pusha T was being hypocritical as his producer had to look at himself in the mirror for doing the same deed he was accused of.
WAS DRAKE WRONG FOR MENTIONING PUSHA T’S FIANCEE?
When Drake responded to Pusha T he made mention of his fiancee Virginia Slim. Pusha T seemed to think that little wordplay with his wife to be made things a full out war as he unloaded with a bomb called “Story Of Adidon”. The single was scathing as it brought up the little known fact that Drake had a son and also that Drake once dressed up in blackface.
Drake took a different route than what many hip hop fans wanted by issuing a press release to address the picture that went viral on the internet. He stated below:
“This picture is from 2007, a time in my life where I was an actor and I was working on a project that was about young black actors struggling to get roles, being stereotyped and type cast,” he wrote. “The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment.”

WAS PUSHA T WRONG FOR MENTIONING DRAKE’S PARENTS?
Drake’s family life also came into question with the actions of his father in the past with his mother was put into the single by Pusha T. The President of G.O.O.D. Music eventually went on interviews to explain his reasoning and he felt he had to attack Drake’s core beliefs about marriage since he had issues with putting a ring on it with any female.
Pusha T claimed to be surgical with his plan to dismantle Drake and by his thought process of bringing in Drake’s possible insecurities it seemed that “The 6ix god” met his match. However, before Drake could make a response the beef was squashed due to a conversation between J Prince (Drake’s handler) and Kanye West. It seemed too many people that Drake was only go to fall even further into a pit of obscurity in hip hop.
However, this was not meant to be as his album Scorpion dropped and broke records within a week. He became the first artist in history to rack up a billion hits on an album within its first week. In a recent interview, J. Prince revealed the advice that he gave to Drake and it seems to have worked.
“When you are a big picture thinker and you have a movement going such as Drake — he has so many moving parts where his career is concerned — then you don’t allow a moment like a Pusha T where somebody is being real disrespectful towards your mother, father, your friend. You don’t allow something so trivial to stop a big movement,” Prince said. “Because it’s easy to go there, you know, and things fall apart.”
