R. Kelly has been involved allegedly with underage girls, but the fallen R & B star was also married for 13 years with Drea Kelly. They have three children together and lived the rock star life. However, Drea has admitted to not having everything luxurious during their relationship due to R. Kelly being abusive.
The dancer has accused her ex-husband of physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, and according to Drea, it wasn’t until she “escaped from him” that she felt as if she was getting her life back.
With her new confidence Drea has felt compelled to let the world know about R. Kelly behind closed doors. She has shared her story on Surviving R. Kelly, Growing Up Hip Hop Atlanta, and now in an interview with Extra. Drea has left herself exposed for “victim-shaming, victim-blaming, and backlash” to those who did not share the same emotions as her concerning the R& B singer. She has been called a liar for telling her stories by some people who believed she is after money or received money to slander R. Kelly.
“I thought, ‘Here I am coming forward, this is about women, women’s empowerment, we’re in this together, and I just want to give validity to these women’s stories and hopefully if they don’t believe them at least they’ll say the ex-wife, she’s speaking…’ It was the complete opposite.”
She continued by saying “There’s no price tag on any woman’s soul. You can’t put a price on a life. At the end of the day, women are fighting for their lives. That’s why I often say you may love R. Kelly, but you might not like Robert.”
The conflict of being the mother to his children is not lost with Drea as she explains the agony of the duality.
“People don’t understand that although he was my abuser, he’s also the father of my children,” she added. “But I will say this, I will take my abuser and the father of my children being in jail if it means another woman doesn’t have to be subjected to what I went through.”
Meanwhile the latest news concerning R. Kelly’s legal issues had him missing his last court date. R. Kelly failed to show up to a court hearing on Wednesday 30 October due to an infected toenail, his lawyer has claimed.
