WNBA legend Lisa Leslie went into defense mode for Kobe Bryant after an interview Gayle King conducted. The recently deceased former Los Angeles Laker sent shock waves throughout the sports and entertainment worlds.
Was Gayle King trying to ruin the legacy of one of the greatest basketball players ever by bringing up his past issues? In 2003, a 19-year-old woman accused Bryant of sexually assaulting her while he was in Eagle, Colorado, for a knee operation.
“I don’t think it’s something that we should keep hanging over his legacy” stated Lisa Leslie.
Others who have highlighted Bryant’s rape allegations have received overwhelming backlash.
Actress Evan Rachel Woods received intense condemnation after sharing a tweet about Bryant on the day he died. ‘I am heartbroken for Kobe’s family. He was a sports hero. He was also a rapist. And all of these truths can exist simultaneously,’ she said.
A Washington Post reporter was suspended from her job for tweeting a link to a past Daily Beast article that examined Bryant’s case.

#CBSNews interviewed #Kobe numerous times in the last 15 years and you'll never questioned his character until now for some ratings. #GayleKing really tried to tarnish #KobeBryant legacy with this one. Shout out to #LisaLeslie for shutting that BS down. Kobe was accused of rape in 2003. He passed away in 2020. That gave all you social justice warriors 17 years to express your negative feelings about him, but you didnt. You waited until he, his daughter, two other girls, and 5 other people passed away to remind us all what he was accused of doing. 17 years and not one peep from any of you. Most of you posting negatively about Kobe’s passing are starving for attention. RIP to all 9 who passed! 🙏🏽 BE RESPECTFUL
