The iconic Regina King has been entertaining viewers with her acting for decades.
Today the actress celebrates her 50th birthday as she continues to expand her resume in the business. She recently made her directorial debut with a fictional tale about what it would have been like if Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Sam Cooke, and Jim Brown all met one night to help the civil rights movement in the 1960’s. One Night In Miami is scheduled for debuting this weekend.
King made her on screen debut on the hit sitcom, 227, that was headed by the legendary Marla Gibbs (Florence of The Jeffersons) who played the character of Mary Jenkins. She played the daughter, Brenda Jenkins, which was a role model for teenage girls all across the world. She would later state that Marla Gibbs as her mentor.
Regina King shocked many in the cult classic movie “Boyz N Da Hood” because it displayed a contrast from her character on 227. Poetic Justice starred another kid actress turned adult, Janet Jackson, where King would also play a role in a movie that included a cast with the iconic hip hop star, Tupac Shakur.
She began to be recognized by a mainstream audience after her role as Cuba Gooding Jr.’s character’s wife in Jerry Maguire (1996). She co-starred in Enemy of the State (1998) as Will Smith’s character’s wife.
WorldWide Entertainment TV wishes her many birthdays to come.
