Today marks another birthday for a Canadian legend in urban music. Michie Mee celebrates another year of life and we wish her many more from Worldwide Entertainment TV. For the newer fans of Toronto hip hop this lady is the Mother of all Toronto rappers including Drake.
In the 1980’s she stepped onto the worldwide stage as a teenager with a fierce lyrical repertoire that caught the attention of none other than KRS One. History was made from there as a new chapter was created for Canadian hip hop history. She would soon after appear in the now iconic music video “Ladies First” that would open up new avenues for women in hip hop that was led by the likes of Queen Latifah, Monie Love, MC Lyte and more. Following that Michie Mee created “Jamaican Funk” which would become a landmark song for Canadian music worldwide.
We mentioned Drake above and before he signed with Lil Wayne’s imprint Young Money and took Canadian rappers to new levels, there was a young lady who trailblazed the way back in the late 1980’s as the first Canadian hip hop artist to sign a major recording deal with American label. We take a look back at her Birthday Bash that WWETV 6ix had the honor of recording which had guests such as the legendary Roxanne Shante.
Worldwide Entertainment TV throwback WWETV Report that consisted coverage of Michie Mee’s 25th Anniversary of Jamaican Funk below has snippets with MC Lyte paying homage to Michie Mee as the trailblazer for women in Canada.
