The year 2020 has been a year of uprising and the worldwide revolution for change in the system has been as huge as the coronavirus pandemic plaguing the planet. In what would have been his 62nd birthday, Michael Jackson’s words and visuals have been remixed by none other Spike Lee. In his later years as an artist, Michael Jackson started to get more political and add social commentary in his songs that started backlash by some people.
Jackson knowing his strength and power with his impact on the world through his talent, took messages to the next level when he sang. The little kid who was once the “prince of “r & b” at Motown Records would become the “King of Pop” and use his star power with breaking ground with music videos such as Thriller, but the lyrical injection used on songs like “Man In The Mirror” and “They Don’t Care About Us” has shown to be timeless classics that lend to generations fighting for social equality.
Spike Lee has incorporated both music video versions of Michael Jackson’s “They Don’t Care About Us” and included the current landscape of protests that have been occurring across the globe. Check out the video below!
