The legendary female rapper who paved the way for the likes of Megan Thee Stallion, Cardi B, and Nicki Minaj plans to take hip hop through another sitcom as her peers did as Fresh Prince and LL Cool J.
According to a report made by Deadline, MC Lyte is joining forces with Bentley Kyle Evans to create a new UMC half-hour scripted series titled Partners in Rhyme. If Evans’s name isn’t familiar to you, his work most certainly should be. He’s known for being the executive producer for shows including the likes of Martin and The Jamie Foxx Show.
“Partners in Rhyme follows the life of a female high school rapper, social media star and foster kid who thinks she is the next Cardi B,” Deadline wrote of the synopsis. It’s reported that MC Lyte is set to star “as a label executive charged with helping the difficult but talented new artist navigate the industry.” Creators are holding nationwide casting calls to search for new talent.
“It’s an honor to be in business with UMC for Partners in Rhyme,” MC Lyte said. “Teaming up with Bentley Evans and Harvest Studios made the creative process an amazing journey. I’m even more excited that my production company, Sunni Gyrl, led by Lynn Richardson, who also serves as Executive Producer, has planted its feet in the production world. I’m excited to see all of the casting submissions and find our co-star.”
