Irv Gotti Opens Up About Relationship With Ashanti

CELEBRITY NEWS - Karen Smith Post

Irv Gotti says he was “In Love” with Ashanti when she started dating Nelly on an episode of ‘Drink Champs,’ as the Murder Inc. founder got candid about his former artist.

In a clip released from the duo’s sit-down with N.O.R.E and DJ EFN, Gotti reveals he was once in love with his Murder Inc. signee, Ashanti – although she was dating Nelly.

“I could get past you wanting to be with Nelly,” Gotti said in a clip from the upcoming episode. “Sounds like you didn’t get past that, I’m just being honest,” N.O.R.E. hilariously interrupts. “Listen, at the time, it happens, any man is hurt,” Irv continued. “The chick you f**king are in love with, is with this ni**a.” Irv goes on to tell the story of how he found out about Ashanti and Nelly.

“I was at home. Listen to this sh*t – this was God wanting me to find out – was at home, NBA package, I like watching sports,” Gotti said, describing how a “commotion” erupted during one of the games. He then mimicked the commentators’ reactions: “‘We just found out what the commotion is: Nelly has walked in with Ashanti!’” Ashanti and Nelly went on to date for a little over a decade before calling it quits in 2014.

Noreaga wanted to know if their relationship affected the business. “It helped her,” Irv answered. He talked about making the huge hit song for Murder Inc in “Happy.”

“‘Happy,’ big record,” he continued, mentioning one of Ashanti‘s classic hits. “So, ‘Happy,’ let me explain how the lyrics and how I worked her… So, we’re together…” Nore interrupted to ask whether or not Irv bought the singer matching watches. “I bought her mad sh*t,” said Gotti. Ja interjected that he didn’t know anything about what was being said.

“We just finished sleeping together, or whatever, I’m taking a shower,” Irv added. “I’m in the shower, you know, a n*gga be creative after [sex]… I’ll give you the quick story, you can see the full story on the Murder Inc documentary… I think of the whole track in the shower.” Gotti claimed he immediately got out, made a phone call, headed over to the studio, and began production.

“Okay, now it’s time for you to write. Yo, I want the sh*t to be a feel-good joint, like summertime,” said Irv. “The energy, that record came about ’cause of our energy.” Noreaga asked Gotti if he “missed that energy a little bit.” Irv answered, “Not anymore,” adding, “Twenty years ago when we stopped.”
