Today marks the 53rd birthday of multi-talented Janet Jackson. Similar to her legendary brother Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson hit the entertainment industry at a very young age capturing the attention of the masses. She has sold an insurmountable amount of records since her music career started in 1982.
It is reported that she has sold around 100 million records. The biggest-selling of those albums, Control, is due for reissue on 7 June, on standard black and limited translucent red vinyl, while Jackson is about to launch her much-anticipated 15-date Las Vegas residency on 17 May.
Of course, she was the daughter of Joe Jackson who helped groom her for stardom since she was born similar to Michael Jackson. She appeared on television shows and got into acting before hitting the stage performing music.
Did what my father said, and let my mother mould me… but that was a long time ago.Janet Jackson on Control
Her upbringing brought her a lot of advantages, but it also brought the pressure of being a Jackson. Janet Jackson in 1986 wanted to show the world that she was in control of her own life and wanted to prove she could do things her way with the album “Control”.
Janet Jackson became a voice for young women wanting to be independent worldwide. She would pave the way for artists today such as Ciara, Missy Elliot, and more. Although, Janet Jackson wanted to show and prove to the industry she was a woman with a voice for the new era, she also paid tribute to the eras before her in music videos such as “Alright” which had the legendary Cab Calloway.
