Kelis says Beyoncé did not inform her about sampling her 1999 single, “Get Along With You” on “Energy.”

Beyoncé released her Renaissance album and thanked fans who waited for the official release despite it leaking a few days in advance. In an open letter, she thanked the BeyHive for their “love and protection” and “calling out anyone that was trying to sneak into the club early.”
“So, the album leaked, and you all actually waited until the proper release time so you all can enjoy it together,” she wrote. “I’ve never seen anything like it. I Can’t think yall enough for your love and protection. I appreciate you for calling out anyone that was trying to sneak into the club early. It means the world to me. Thank you for your unwavering support. Thank you for being patient. We are going to take our time and enjoy the music. I will continue to give my all and do my best to bring you joy.”

One aspect that has the album trending is the backlash of Kellis’s 1999 hit record, “Get Along With You.” The backlash comes at the hands of the singer Kelis herself.

Kelis’ fan page celebrated the singer’s inclusion on Beyoncé’s album but in the comment section, the “Milkshake” singer appeared to express her frustrations from her chef account. Kelis claimed that Beyoncé and The Neptunes, who produced the song, did not involve her in any discussion surrounding the use of the sample.

“My mind is blown too because the level of disrespect and utter ignorance of all 3 parties involved is astounding. I heard about this the same way everyone else did. Nothing is ever as it seems, some of the people in this business have no soul or integrity and they have everyone fooled,” she wrote.

Kelis has described her beef with the music industry since 2020.  At that time she revealed Pharrell and Chad Hugo never paid her the albums they produced for her. Prior to that, she expressed shock over her rare album Wanderland appearing on streaming services.

She did not stop with her rant as she spoke more about the dishonesty of the music business.

“I just heard the record everyone is saying has my sample . But it’s beyond this song at this point . This was a Trigger for me,” she said. “Milkshake alone is one of the most licensed records of our generation. I am a creator , I’m an innovator, I have done more then left my mark on an era of music and style that will go down in history . But there are bully’s and secrets and gangsters in this industry that smile and get away with it until someone says enough is enough.”

“So I’m saying it today . I’m coming for what’s mine and I want reparations . Peace.”

One individual put Kelis on blast after she called out Beyoncé. A fan wrote, “Nas was right about you.” Kelis didn’t overlook the snarkiness, and fired back, “yeah, he was madly in love and has never been the same.”

Kelis apparently has issues with Rihanna. Another commenter slid under her post claiming that Kelis set the blueprint for Rihanna. “I feel like Rihanna rode a wave created by Kelis.”

It seems like Kelis agrees. She hardly refuted the claims but suggested that her apparent influence on Rihanna is a conversation for another day. “let’s not open that Pandora’s box today lol one step at a time friend.”
