Kurupt on Almost Getting Into Fistfight with 2Pac in Mexico

LEGENDS & ICONS OF HIP HOP - Post By Kevin Douglas

Kurupt and Daz as Dogg Pound were one of the top groups of the 90s for hip hop. As apart of Death Row Records, the duo went up against the east coast after their music video shoot for “New York New York.” The classic visuals saw Kurupt, Daz, and Snoop Dogg touring New York with the following memorable lines of:

New York, New York, big city of dreams
And everything in New York ain’t always what it seems
You might get fooled if you come from outta town
But I’m down by law, and I’m from Tha Dogg Pound

Kurupt recounted 2Pac telling him how much he loved “New York New York” and would play it on loop while locked up on Rikers Island. He also retold the story about almost getting into a fistfight with Tupac Shakur in Mexico and the origin behind his alias “Young Gotti.”
