Kurupt On Tupac’s Death Being Compared To Drake Dying

LEGENDS & ICONS OF HIP HOP - Post By Kevin Douglas

Death Row Records legend, Kurupt, speaks on the topic of fans comparing Drake dying today to Tupac passing in 1996.

DRAKE IS KURUPT’S TOP ARTIST

The Dogg Pound icon says “My top artist to tell you the truth is Drake, people don’t want to agree with me with that.” When the interviewer, Art Of Dialogue,  asked if Drake dying as a top charting artist today, would be similar to Tupac decades ago, he had a simple answer. Drake dominated the Billboard charts today and the year Shakur passed, he was charting with selling six million records.

“Nah,” said Kurupt bluntly when asked the questioned.  He let it be known that this wasn’t about Hollywood or top rapper type of thing to him. “This was my homeboy” and “this was my friend,” Kurupt says rather of fact. The death made the Death Row artist start thinking about his life since “if it could happen to him it could happen to me.”

to live and die in la

He reminded the interviewer that back then, it was a big thing for black men to live til 25 years. “So damn, this just fit the cliche,” he said in reference to his friend passing.

DRAKE VS. TUPAC

At the time, Kurupt was only 24 years of age when the murder of Tupac took place in Las Vegas. The Daz collaborator said, “this aint it,” when it came to the death of the iconic rapper.

Due to not being close friends with Drake, he did say, “If Drake were to pass away it would hurt because I like this young man, but this is Tupac cuz, this is my friend.”

2Pac died on September 13, 1996, in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, after being shot multiple times in a drive-by shooting on September 7, 1996. Kurupt surprisingly says Drake is his favorite artist today, “he can go in any lane and be just as good and sound as just good as good.”
