“This is hard to write, but the time has come for the next chapter in my story to begin,” the Philadelphia native wrote in a late-night Thursday post.
Kyle Lowry posted an emotional farewell to Toronto on Instagram, days after reports surfaced that the Raptors franchise icon would be leaving the Raptors to join the Miami Heat in a sign-and-trade deal.
“This is hard to write, but the time has come for the next chapter in my story to begin,” the Philadelphia native wrote in a late-night Thursday post.
Lowry wrote about his love for the city he played for multiple years creating memories for himself and the fans.
“The bond I share with you is unbreakable. There’s so many things I want to say about the city of Toronto,” he said, sharing his appreciation for the fans’ excitement, enthusiasm and hope for the team.
Lowry went on to thank many of his supporters in the post, including the Raptors board of governors, support and medical staff, and even the media. He also thanked his teammates — including those on the 2019 NBA championship team — and fans, as well as Drake and his best friend DeMar DeRozan.
Lowry leaves as the franchise’s all-time leader in steals, assists, three-pointers and triple doubles.
“I’ve legit gave blood, sweat, tears and everything I’ve could! Thank you Toronto, thank you Canada, this will forever be HOME!!!” he finished.

And can the Raptors & Heat be the 1st game of the season as well (IN TORONTO)?
By the time the 2021-22 campaign rolls around, it'll have been 18+ months since the Raps (& Kyle Lowry) were in T.O.
An opening night tilt/tribute/send-off vs Miami/for K-Lo seems fitting & fair. https://t.co/HePlqIdNdo
