It all goes down next week as Maestro Fresh Wes will be immortalized in the annals of Canadian music history.
Maestro Fresh Wes came from a different era when Canadian hip hop artists weren’t seen as global superstars as they are today with the likes of Drake and Tory Lanez. Maestro burst onto the scene in the 1980’s and discovered the many obstacles the culture would encounter from being a new genre and also having it extra hard being a Canadian trying to break into the American market. He broke down barriers with the song and music video for “Let Your Backbone Slide”.
He recently spoke about the hardships of being a Canadian artist in the rap genre during the early days of the hip hop industry. Maestro Fresh Wes also explained how the business changed in terms of the way listeners consume the music and how artists get their music heard.
