The Versuz series has been a hit with fans all over the world as they get to see their favorite artists celebrate their catalog in a battle. It came out of the need to provide entertainment relief during the lockdown earlier this year due to the coronavirus. Many times fans create their own “Versuz” battle with legends who are no longer with us. One fan did the ultimate hip hop showdown between Tupac Shakur and Notorious BIG.

A fan also created a battle list between the iconic Mariah Carey and legendary Whitney Houston. Timbaland liked the idea of a Verzuz matchup, but he’s got other ideas in mind for Carey. Timbo teased his Instagram followers by revealing he has something else in store for Carey.

“This is a good match but me and @therealswizzz have other plans for @mariahcarey,” he wrote via Instagram. “@jermainedupri any thoughts.

Having a substitute in place to play the music of Houston goes against the appeal of Verzuz as viewers love the competitive interaction. Making any attempt to posthumously feature someone more awkward than it already is.

Houston isn’t the first deceased artist to be pitched for a Verzuz battle. Bun B campaigned for a UGK versus Eightball & MJG showdown even though it would be missing the late Pimp C. That idea is much more plausible than Houston given that Bun is at least around to still represent his duo.

The next showdown for Versuz includes 2 Chainz and Rick Ross scheduled for August 6.
