Last night in the United States and around the world eyes were set on the annual Grammy awards. One of the biggest moments of the event was during the speech of Toronto rapper Drake. The hip hop artist who calls Toronto the 6ix let the music industry know his frustrations of not being understood because of his Canadian heritage.
While this was happening, across the border in his home city was an event entitled “Memoirs Of A Monarch” for the iconic Michie Mee of Canada. For the uninitiated, she was one of the artists who paved the way for Canadian urban music acts when she became the first ever United States based music label signed artist from her city. Last night the new generation of female artists paid tribute to her, while she honored and ushered in the new generation of females who will lead the city.
