A national guard soldier was killed while visiting his family on the city’s northwest side.
Chicago —Family members say 19-year-old Chrys Carvajal was found shot on a sidewalk near the corner of Lockwood and Palmer just after 1 a.m. Saturday.
Police say he was shot in the back and abdomen. He later died at the Illinois Masonic Hospital according to WGN News.
“How can I stay strong? You guys don’t know what I’m doing,” said Jennifer Ramirez, who screamed on Sunday the day after she lost her brother in gun violence. .. “This is not fair. My mother has to overcome this and we have to live without my brother.”
Ramirez said her family is beginning to feel like life imprisonment on the day they are supposed to celebrate freedom. “You always see the news and think it will happen to someone else, not you,” Ramirez said.
Already a member of the National Guard, Carvajal was aiming to become a Chicago police officer.
“It was a career because he thought he could do it,” Ramirez said.
The family says Carvajal is a person who cares deeply about others.
“He told me to take care of my mom when I was gone,” Ramirez said.
Ramirez is now left to take care of his sad mother, who is desperate to find her son’s hitman.
“I want my son to have justice,” Carvajal’s mother collapsed. “He comes to Chicago and is killed on the streets of Chicago. It’s crazy.”
