Nicki Minaj Disses Latto As A “Karen” In Grammys Politics

SOCIAL MEDIA TRENDS - Keisha Wray Post

Nicki Minaj explains why she won’t be in best rap song category and why she’s not winning a Grammy for her rap skills possibly shading Big Latto at same time.

The tension with Nicki Minaj and fellow female rapper, Latto, appears to be continuing due to the annual award show known as The Grammys. Last month (September), Nicki Minaj had unfollowed Latto allegedly after the 23-year-old Latto tweeted about a “hating a– artist” who allegedly sabotaged one of her potential collaborations.

Latto has stated in previous years that she refuses to take sides in the multiyear beef between Minaj and Cardi B, saying that she loves both of them. Latto has also said in the past that she was a “Barb” when she was younger.

Earlier in the year, Latto proved she was top hit maker when she got into an elite group of female rappers with a Billboard standing. Cracking the Top 5 with “Big Energy,” she became the ninth solo female rap act to hit the Top 5 with a single. Latto joined Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion, Nicki Minaj, Doja Cat, Lauryn Hill, M.I.A., Missy Elliott and Salt-N-Pepa to conquer the feat.

Nicki Minaj’s “Super Freaky Girl” is spending its eighth week on top of Billboard’s Hot Rap Songs chart, but at the Grammys, the song will compete in the pop category.

Minaj originally submitted the track — which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart in August — to the rap categories at the Grammys, but the decision was overturned by the Recording Academy’s rap committee, according to a source. That group determined that Minaj’s playful and pop-sounding song sampling Rick James’ 1981 classic “Super Freak” should compete for best pop solo performance instead of rap awards.

Nicki Minaj jumped on her social media to air out her grievance with the awards board saying, “I have no prob being moved out the RAP category as long as we r ALL being treated FAIRLY. If SFG has 2B moved out RAP then so does Big Energy! ANY1 who says diff is simply a Nicki hater or a troll. I’d actually LUV 2 c a more street record win- male OR female! IJS rightIsRight.”

Minaj has received 10 Grammy nominations throughout her career, but she’s only competed in pop once — for best pop duo/group performance with “Bang Bang” alongside Ariana Grande and Jessie J. The majority of her Grammy nominations have been in rap, including best rap album for Pink Friday and The Pinkprint, best rap song for “Anaconda” and best rap performance for “Moment 4 Life” and “Truffle Butter.”

Of course, “The Barbz” have taken up the fight for Nicki Minaj and the rap star has gone on a tweet rant since. Check out some of the posts below.

Latto responded to the comment by Nicki Minaj stating, “Damn I can’t win for losing… all these awards/noms I can’t even celebrate.”

Nicki Minaj continued to stand her ground about her complaint of her hit song being moved into another category, “Could you imagine someone telling you not to “complain” about being treated unfairly at your workplace? This is my job. I work very hard. No diff from a 9-5 where you should speak up for yourself if you know you’re a great employee & continue to be purposely sabotaged.

Things went up a notch as Nicki Minaj called Big Latto a Karen who hasn’t stood up for her in what she is deeming mistreatment by the Grammys. “This Karen has probably mentioned my name in over 100 interviews. Says she waited in line for Pink Friday w|her Barbie chain on, bangs, pink hair…but today, scratch off decides to be silent; rather than speak up for the black woman she called her biggest inspiration” says Minaj.

It was in response apparently to Latto message stating, “I agree with you, however because of where we left off ion think u need to bring my name/song up to prove your point.” The two fan bases are going back and forth on the issue as you see below.
