In the 1980’s and 1990’s as hip hop was becoming a force in pop culture, back up dancers were vital for musical groups in terms of capturing live stage and video excitement for viewers.
In the rap world, legendary artists such as Big Daddy Kane and Heavy D were known for having their dance crews dancing along with them everywhere they go. This craze caught on in dance clubs and at house parties across the country.
Dancing was always a staple for musical acts of the 60’s up until the 80’s with groups such as The Jackson Five and New Edition. Ironically, as hip hop started to breakthrough on pop charts, members of New Edition also broke out with their stylized version of hip hop. BBD was known for their club hits such as “Poison” and “She’s Dope”.
