Drake has been breaking records in the modern era of music metrics, but “King Of Pop”‘s son doesn’t believe the comparisons to Michael Jackson are valid.
Michael Jackson’s record was smashed last month when Drake had nine tracks from Certified Lover Boy appear in the top 10 of the Billboard Hot 100 chart. 1982’s Thriller by Michael Jackson finally was ousted of the accolade which led some people into crowning Drake as being as big as Michael Jackson was in his prime during the 1980’s.
For the most part there is a split amongst generations and fans on who the bigger artist is. The Michael Jackson and Drake debate became a trending topic. Rap legend Fat Joe had previously stated he felt Drake was the Michael Jackson of the modern era causing some fans to question his music knowledge. He was not the only rapper to make this comparison as The Game also believed Drake is the MJ of rap.
TooFab recently caught up with Jackson’s son Prince, where they asked him what he felt about such comparisons. Prince gave Drake his roses as doing great things, but believes his father’s accomplishments are still unmatched til this day.
He made reference to the family legacy that preceded the solo career of one of the greatest entertainers ever. In the modern era of social media, it may not dawn on the new generation how massive a star Michael Jackson was for multiple decades in comparison to Drake’s one decade of dominance.
“I mean everybody has their own definition of great, and all respect to Drake everything that he does,” Prince said. “But what my father and my family accomplished, in the time that they did it, is very unlikely never to be matched again.”
In other Jackson family news, the iconic sister of Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, will be dropping a documentary about her life and career in the early part of 2022.
