Rapsody is a lyrical female rapper that has garnered Grammy nomination for her work for “Laila’s Wisdom”. She was up for “Best Rap Album” and is only the fifth woman to be nominated for that category. Rapsody uses her pen work to craft music that pays homage to Tupac’s mother Afeni Shakur on her third studio album ‘Eve’.
Rapsody also pays tribute to other powerful women on this album. Names that include Oprah Winfrey, Michelle Obama, and Aaliyah. On track 16 titled ‘Afeni’, Tupac is heard on the chorus. Reciting his verse from his hit single ‘Keep Ya Head up’, Tupac is also joined by PJ Morton who is also featured on ‘Afeni’.
Now since we all came from a woman
Got our names from a woman and our game from a woman
I wonder why we take from our women
Why we rape our women
Do we hate our women?
Now since we all
Chorus: PJ Morton
I don’t know where I would be
If you weren’t here with me
If you don’t hear anybody else sayin’
Please know you’re appreciated (‘Ated)
The way you walk, way you talk so fine (Fine)
And ooh, you got a brilliant mind (Brilliant mind)
There ain’t nobody better (Better)
Each and every one of you matter to me
