Redd Foxx’s Fight For Black Comedy Shows In The 70’s

LEGENDS & ICONS - Kevin Douglas Article

comedy

Redd Foxx would break records as Fred Sanford on ‘Sanford & Son’ for 6 seasons. Despite the show’s success there appeared to be drama on the back end which resulted with Redd Foxx quitting the show.

The legendary show led by Foxx would break new grounds. Many critics and industry personnel did not think the show would be such a winner, but the comic skills and acting of the cast proved “Sanford and Son” to be a smash hit.

Foxx would complain that his show and others setting new ground such as “Good Times”, “The Jeffersons”, and “That’s My Mama” were being disrespected for the lack of Emmy nominations throughout their run. “Sanford and Son” itself did not receive any nominations despite being the number one show on NBC for six seasons after the airing of the pilot.
