Remy Ma Speaks On Hosting “My True Crime Story” TV Series

Rapper Remy Ma has a new gig as the host of “My True Crime Story,” that will feature people “with good intentions who commit scandalous criminal activities and ultimately find redemption.” Each episode will feature someone involved with the crime tell their side of the story.

Remy, real name Reminisce Smith-Mackie spoke with PageSix about being apart of the new series and why it was something that interested her.

“When they broke it down for me and said that these would be first person accounts from the people who’ve been through the system, who went to prison, who planned it all out, I was definitely interested,”

Fans who have been following her career know about her down period of serving seven years in prison after being convicted of shooting a woman at a Manhattan nightspot in 2007. She maintained her innocence and understands what it is like to be apart of the correctional system in America that gets her insight that another host may not have. In 2008, a jury found her guilty of assault, illegal weapon possession and attempted coercion. She was sentenced to eight years in prison, of which she served six before her release in 2014.

Remy Ma has also been an inspiration for how she turned herself around after being released. She went on to marry hip hop artist, Shamele “Papoose” Mackie, got on reality television, and Nicki Minaj classic rivalry that helped bring more attention to woman of rap. She has also delved into the arena of acting as well where she made appearances on shows like “Empire” and “Queen of the South.” She now has three films lined up with “The Perfect Find” with Gabrielle Union and a biopic where she’s secured top billing on the call sheet.

“My True Crime Story” premiered Aug 2nd at 10pm on VH1.
