With social distancing being implemented on society, it was expected that people would bide their time with forms of distraction such as entertainment forms like music. The European country of Italy had Netflix downgrade data due to overuse of HD quality streaming putting pressure on the internet.

This increase of usage of the platform has not been transferred over to music streaming according to a new report from Quart stating an opposite effect has occurred to the data they have researched. Spotify believes that the isolation process is the reason for the decline, especially when it comes to the more popular songs of the month.

Italy is the main source of the research since it’s the location that is being hit the hardest due to covid-19. Highlighting numbers from roughly one year ago, in which the average daily streams totaled to an approximated 18.3 million, the study compares them with those gathered from a post-Quarantined Italy. According to their findings, the streams have failed to surpass 14.4 million since the lockdown was enacted on March 9th.
