#RIP Katherine Helmond #FridayFlashback

Katherine Helmond was an actress on groundbreaking television shows in the 1970’s and 1980’s. She has passed away at the age of 89. The iconic actress died Feb. 23 of complications from Alzheimer’s disease at her home in Los Angeles, her talent agency, APA, announced. The condolences and memories have been pouring online from celebrities who once worked with her on shows such as Who’s The Boss?

My beautiful, kind, funny, gracious, compassionate, rock. You were an instrumental part of my life. You taught me to hold my head above the marsh! You taught me to do anything for a laugh! What an example you were!

Alyssa Milano who portrayed the loveable daughter of Tony Micelli played by Tony Danza let the world know how much influence Katherine Helmond had on her life. Danza also espoused his thoughts on the passing of his former co-worker.

I was in love with her. She was such an influence on me. From being a single guy with a hit show in Hollywood, though my marriage and having kids — she was with me. No matter what problem I had, I could go to her. Very few people could match her.

The television show was groundbreaking at the time for its gender reversal role of having a male in the role of a housekeeper. Katherine Helmond provided the motherly role for the unusual household and doubled at the same time what we call today online a MILF.

Katherine Helmond was also a star on the controversial sitcom “Soap” which touched on many taboo subjects at the time. The program was a satire on the popular soap dramas of the day. Katherine Helmond portrayed Jessica Tate.


Helmond continued to work on television post Who’s The Boss on programs being Doris Sherman on ABC’s Coach (1995-1997) and as Debra Barone’s mother Lois Whelan on CBS’s Everybody Loves Raymond.
