Scottie Pippen Claps Back At Charles Barkley Over Jordan

LEGENDS & ICONS IN SPORTS - Kevin Douglas Article

The Chicago Bulls of the 90’s are regarded as one of the greatest, if not the greatest teams in NBA history. The recent media run and published book of Scottie Pippen is ruffling a few feathers to say the least about Michael Jordan and the team.

For decades Michael Jordan was seen as the perennial athlete for basketball and an iconic figure for the NBA, but Scottie Pippen begs to differ in his tell all book.

It seems Pippen‘s anger stems from how he was portrayed in ‘The Last Dance’ documentary  that was critically acclaimed. After premiering on ESPN in April and becoming more widely available on Netflix, the docuseries was met with immense critical acclaim, earning a near-perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes along with award wins at the Creative Arts Emmy Awards and the TCA Awards.

The new memoir ‘Unguarded’,  is Scottie’s attempt to give a different perspective about playing in those years with Jordan and the Chicago Bulls.

“I may go as far to say Mike ruined basketball,” said Pippen in the book.

“In the 1980s on the playgrounds, you’d have everyone moving the ball around – passing to help the team.

“That stopped in the 1990s. Kids wanted to be ‘Like Mike’.

“Well, Mike didn’t want to pass – he didn’t want to rebound or defend the best player. He wanted everything done for him.

“That’s why I always believed LeBron James was the greatest player this game has ever seen – he does everything and embodies what the game is truly about.”

Many people believe Scottie Pippen is just trying to sell his book using controversy surrounding what many consider to be the greatest basketball player of all-time. This belief is even among some legendary NBA stars that see Scottie Pippen as just trying to get attention.

“If you want to say these things then just say then and don’t put them in a book,” Barkley said.

“When you bring all this stuff up and you just happen to have a book coming out, that’s the problem.”

It has been recorded on television through NBA broadcasts that Scottie Pippen in the past has called Jordan the greatest basketball player ever and LeBron not on his level. The complete turn around on this statement is odd to some people for a good reason.

Scottie Pippen has responded to the claims made by Charles Barkley and appears to have buckled down on his stance about Jordan. He has even gone to say he is a greater player than Jordan. Check out the interview below.
