Rapper Shyheim Franklin, a 31-year-old from Mariners Harbor who has worked on major motion pictures and served three years in prison for weapons charges, is releasing his 2009 album “Disrespectfully Speaking” on his own label, Bottom Up Records.

Shyheim was a teenage rap sensation in the 1990’s. He was groomed under the iconic Wu-Tang Clan. He sits down with Vladtv to speak about the legendary freestyle session at the monumental Madison Square Garden.

During this time in history, the once in a lifetime freestyle with Biggie and Tupac took place. For newer fans of hip hop, they may not realize that Shyheim, Scoob, and Big Daddy Kane were also present on the stage for the big moment.

Shyheim impressed the hip hop world in the 1990’s as a child phenomenon when he dropped “On and On”. Check out the classic song and video below.

He also discussed the adult themes on his debut album, AKA The Rugged Child, when he was just 13. Shyheim explained that he was reporting on the things around him in his neighborhood, including murders and young girls being in the streets.

I was born at 6 months, premature.. my moms birthed a thug like Afeni Shakur

Shyheim also explained that his mother had him when she was 16 and she was battling a drug problem and his father was in prison, so his grandparents took care of him until they passed away when he was 11. From that point on, Shyheim was raised by the neighborhood, and he got a big break with a record deal at 13 for $350,000 with Virgin Records.
