Toronto is bubbling with talent and the world has only seen the tip of the iceberg to its singers such as The Weeknd. WorldWide Entertainment TV was privileged to witness the first live performance of a star in the making. Brooklyn took her “Tea Talk” on the road and interviewed rising star, SHYLA, aka “The Indigo Girl”.
She performed a stirring rendition of the iconic singer Nina Simone’s classic. For those who are not initiated on the legend, she was a civil rights activist in the 1960’s, who happened to blend the genres of classical, jazz, blues, folk, R&B, gospel, and pop. In other words, one has to be truly talented to pull off cover of the singer. Nina Simone was inducted into the “Rock ‘N Roll Hall Of Fame” by the legendary Mary J. Blige in 2018.
Simone recorded nearly forty albums between 1958 and 1973 in a wide range of styles. Folk songs, traditional ballads, spirituals, and children’s songs were all part of her dazzling repertoire.
SHYLA was able to channel the legend without any trouble and is a sign that her star can shine bright in the music world. Brooklyn also got the singer to reveal the reason she put together an all girl band to play live instruments for her performance.
