Snoop Dogg showed his love for his Los Angeles Lakers and his late friend Kobe Bryant with a performance with the song entitled “A Tribute To Kobe” at the 2020 ESPY Awards. The event was virtually staged due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Snoop’s homage was featured in a video showcasing highlights from Bryant’s career.
“You beat the odds by a mile, all grit, no smile/A new golden child, yeah, let’s do it Mamba Style,” Snoop raps.
Kobe Bryant was a Laker for his whole career and achieved NBA championships and the 2008 MVP award. The track references some of the basketball great’s most memorable moments and concludes with a declaration: Los Angeles is Bryant’s city.
Snoop Dogg’s love for Kobe got him into heat with Gayle King earlier this year as he felt he had to defend his name amidst the reminder of his past issues.
Bryant, along with his daughter Gianna, died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California on January 26. He left behind his wife Vanessa and three surviving children.
