The legendary Salt N Pepa who paved the way for women in rap is being honored with a biopic on Lifetime Network. Actress GG Townson plays Sheryl “Salt” James in Lifetime’s new “Salt-N-Pepa” biopic about the iconic hip-hop group. Townson told PIX11’s Ojinika Obiekwe what the hardest music number was to film.
The hip hop world in recent years have seen biopics depicting the iconic life and times of its most beloved artists. We have seen the life of Tupac Shakur, Notorious BIG, and N.W.A. and some say it is about time we get another women biopic after the critically acclaimed Roxanne Shante film that streamed on Netflix.
Salt N Pepa spoke with The Breakfast Club over various topics including the biopic in the video below.
There will always be problems and issues with these type of films in terms of correct history and informing viewers on the inside of the lives of the stars. Salt N Pepa have been brought to life on television screens for the upcoming biopic, but there is one critic who is rightly condemning the film.
Spinderella who was the deejay for the group is a non factor in her view in the story and was not even considered to be apart of the iconic group’s true history. This of course, has brought back the bad blood between Spinderella with the other members in Salt and Pepa.

Sorry but I gotta speak on this Lifetime special.., Too often, Black women who have made meaningful contributions in their industry are left out of historical narratives.

Words cannot fully express my disappointment when I learned a decision was made to move forward with a Lifetime biopic that wrongfully excluded me from every aspect of development and production…

I do, however, want to offer a huge congratulations to the talented actresses that represented us, including Monique Paul, who I wish would’ve been given an opportunity to share my true perspective with.

The great news is I’m in the final stages of writing my memoir, a personal journey navigating through life, relationships, and the industry that raised me. 30+ years is a lot of content and I’m ready to share.

The fans that follow the group seem to be in agreement with her as you can see below.
Shame and as a fan of the ENTIRE group I appreciate you keeping it professional and classy while still getting your disapproval across!!

It's sad that this is happening. After all these years, even though there's personal issues among the three of you, that they cannot be professional enough to have your input on your experience. I have been a day oner with your group as well as @mclyte and @IAMQUEENLATIFAH. 🙏🏽❤️
