DWAYNE MORGAN SAYS NEITHER LIL’ KIM OR NICKI MINAJ DESERVE THE GOAT TITLE!

The debate rages on with  “Greatest Of All-Time” series between Lil’ Kim and Nicki Minaj, but Toronto’s iconic spoken word poet Dwayne Morgan gives an alternate take on the question. Fellow Toronto native, Melanie Durrant, has a differing opinion on who the G.O.A.T. is and yet the answers both have merit as you will see below.

Being a person who writes poetry, his view on the situation comes down to who writes the best. The poet believes that no one can go toe to toe with Lauryn Hill from a lyrical standpoint. He believes that she should not only be categorized as a female rapper, but as a hip hop artist that could rival any star in her genre. In fact, Kool Moe Dee made this claim decades ago when he gave his own report card for rappers in the game.

Before there was a Drake that combined singing and rapping, there was Lauryn Hill in the late 90’s breaking records at The Grammy awards. She  was apart of the breed of rappers that changed the game by making it possible for rappers to have singing songs.  The rap world would hear the likes of Bone-Thugs ‘N Harmony and soon after Ja Rule would make it a thing for a solo artist with his duets with Ashanti.

BIRTH OF A LEGEND

Lauryn Noelle Hill was born in East Orange, New Jersey, and grew up in nearby South Orange. Her parents were both music. She would watch her older brother, Malaney, play multiple instruments when she was growing up. Hill would spends hours upon hours in her childhood home listening to the classic soul music of the ’60s and ’70s which would become the inspiration for her later work on Mis-education Of Lauryn Hill.

Dwayne Morgan basing it off his criteria sees that no one else compares to Lauryn Hill. He believes the iconic Fugees member can go toe to toe with not only women, but any male rapper on the planet.
