One Night In Miami was a cinematic take on what the civil rights movement top figures of Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X, Jim Brown and Sam Cooke may have said to each other on one historical night during the 1960’s.
According to the Smithsonian Mag, the story is accurate to a point. There is “extensive dramatic license, particularly in terms of the characters’ conversations.” The four figures were friends and did spend that night together in Miami, but the issues arose for Kemp Powers, the person who wrote the script. He told the Miami Herald during a 2018 interview that he had trouble tracking down “more than perfunctory information” about the events of the night in Miami.
The film was the directorial debut of Regina King who recently turned 50 years old. She would pay tribute to what would have been Sam Cooke’s 90th birthday.
"I think the secret is observation. Well, if you observe what's going on and try to figure out how people are thinking, I think you can always write something people will understand" -Sam Cooke

Sam Cooke’s talent transcended race and was also an inspiration to artists such as Rod Stewart.
Happy Birthday, my one and only influence.
How many thousands of hours I spent trying to sound like you and never came close.
Without Sam, there may not have been a Rod.
Just think if you were still alive we could have been mates.
