The NBA Finals will see for the first time ever, a foreign city in the championship series. Toronto makes history going up against the Golden State Warriors. What helped Toronto reach this milestone was a major move in the off season that saw San Antonio send Kawhi Leonard to Toronto in exchange for its MVP in Demar Derozan.
Hindsight being 20/20, there was reservations from Toronto fans and critics alike, that felt the 1 year contract was not worth sending their face of the franchise to the Spurs. Considering that Kawhi Leonard was also injured from last year’s NBA Finals made things even more sketchy. However, everything has worked out for the better in terms of The Raptors.
Stephen A. Smith, has now taken a stand, the sports analyst believes San Antonio Spurs “look very bad” in the trade. The team that reached the finals last year got knocked out of the first round this year. The exact opposite of the Raptors who last year felt the same fate with Derozan leading them.
The trade of Kawhi Leonard is still a major talking point by other analysts and there can only be positives for the Toronto squad who has finally gotten over that hump.
The next big talking point that could be an obstacle for the Raptors from winning their first NBA Championship is Kevin Durrant’s possible return to the playoffs. Golden State Warriors are already a team to be reckoned with stars such as Steph Curry, but add Durrant and it definitely increases their stock.
