“The Hate U Give Little Infants ##$% Everyone” aka “Thug Life” is the mantra that made popular by the iconic hip hop star Tupac Shakur. It was a plan he had to reach the youth with rules for the streets and how to prevent senseless violence and killings in the streets of America.
Now there is a movie with that same premise and title. The main character Starr Carter is constantly switching between two worlds: the poor, mostly black, neighborhood where she lives and the rich, mostly white, prep school she attends.
After witnessing a fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer she knows what it’s like for many youth in America although she also knows a life that only a few endure with being in rich neighborhoods.
THE HATE U GIVE is based on the critically acclaimed New York Times bestseller by Angie Thomas and stars Amandla Stenberg as Starr, with Regina Hall, Russell Hornsby, Issa Rae, KJ Apa, Algee Smith, Sabrina Carpenter, Common and Anthony Mackie.
The legendary hip hop show with Sway Calloway interviewed the director of the film and Sway gives it a thumbs up and must see co-sign.
The author Angie Thomas, along with Amandla Stenberg, Maverick ‘Mav’ Carter,
Regina Hall, Anthony Mackie, and Algee Smith sit down to discuss their
new movie, The Hate U Give, and how the story explores race, family and
finding joy in the face of persecution.
