THURSDAY THROWBACK with 1970’s CLASSICS
The Jeffersons was a classic 1970’s sitcom and it will be revived by Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes. The two stand up comedians will play iconic characters George and Louise “Weezy” Jefferson in the upcoming ABC special live event presentation of the series, Deadline reports.
The original characters were portrayed by the legendary Sherman Hemsley and Isabel Sanford. Jamie Foxx and Wanda Sykes will try to live up to the roles of the couple who moved from Queens “on up to the east side” with their son, Lionel.
The show will also feature Will Ferrell as George and Louise’s friend Tom Willis and Justina Machado as Jefferson housekeeper Florence Johnston. The roles of Helen Willis, Lionel Jefferson, Jenny Willis and Mother Jefferson have yet to be cast.
“The fact that a group of Oscar winners eagerly agreed to play these iconic characters is a testament to the greatness of these shows and their creator, Norman Lear,” said Kimmel. “To be a part of this is a dream come true for me and for everyone involved.”
The event will take place on May 22 at 8 p.m. ET. Farrell and Adam McKay’s Gary Sanchez Productions will produce along with Justin Theroux. Will and Grace director James Burrows will direct the event.
The May 22 live event will also feature Woody Harrelson in the iconic role by Carroll O’Connor as Archie Bunker. The legendary “All In The Family” will also be presented live as a tribute. Marisa Tomei will play the role of his wife Edith.
