The latest report names The Matrix 4‘s Lana Wachowski plans on fighting for the long-awaited fourth entry in the sci-fi series to release exclusively on the big screen and nowhere else. In fact, according to IMDB, the director is “adamant about an exclusive theatrical run.”
Warner Bros. not consulting with the teams for films such as Godzilla vs. Kong, Dune and The Matrix 4 may end up having them getting pulled from HBO Max and kept as theatrical exclusives.
2021 will mark the triumphant return of The Matrix franchise after 18 long years with Keanu Reeves in the lead role as the sci-fi juggernaut will make its explosive comeback with pretty much the same set of cast members while introducing new characters to the fold.
Co-star Carrie-Anne Moss will be reprising her role as Trinity, alongside Reeves as Neo. New faces Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Watchmen) and Jessica Henwick (Iron Fist) will be making their debut in the franchise. Familiar faces like Jada Pinkett-Smith as Niobe, is set to return; while Laurence Fishburne and his unprecedented role of Morpheus, “have not been invited” back, according to New York Magazine. Additionally, Hugo Weaving, renowned for his villain role of Mr. Smith will also be missing the sequel due to schedule conflicts.
