Forbes declared him hip-hop’s first billionaire earlier this month, so of course he tops this year’s list of richest rappers.
“To convince artists that you can’t be an artist and make money … was the greatest trick in music that people ever pulled off,” Jay-Z told Forbes in 2010. “I think the people that were making the millions said that.”
Dr. Dre pulls in at number 2 with $800 million to his name. The kid who started selling newspapers at the age of 12, is now the third richest rapper in the world today. Making the trifecta is none other than the founder of Bad Boy Records, Sean “Diddy” Combs. Where things get interesting is at the number four and five slots.
Drake and Kanye West have been “frenemies” for some time now. When Drake was just bursting onto the scene, Kanye West sort of took him under his wing on projects such as “Best I Ever Had” music video.
Eventually, the two got into a friendly competition, that got out of hand when the beef was at an all-time high between Drizzy and Pusha T. The Kanye recently stated how he pretty much has a gag order in terms of not being allowed to speak on Drake or his family. The two still seem to compete on just about everything.
There is one thing that Kanye West can have bragging rights on Drake with, it’s the new claim by Forbes that lists Kanye by nearly $100 million in riches over Drake in this year’s Richest Rappers series.
