“Today In History” remembers Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes Of vocal trio TLC who died in an automobile accident nineteen years ago today on April 25, 2002 at age 30.
In the photo below shows Left Eye in Philly with her younger sister Raina & brother (Ronald Jr.). When she was about 19 in 1990, she moved to Atlanta to audition for an opening spot in a new girl group. Which would be TLC.
Fun Fact: at one point she was living/sleeping in Jermaine Dupri ‘s closet when she first moved to ATL. TLC was supposed to be his group but he was juggling Kris Kross at the time.
Her stage name “Left Eye” came after a compliment from Michael Bivens of New Edition. He once told her he was attracted to her because of her left eye, which was more slanted than the right eye.
