In the history of Toronto hip hop there has been a history of artists who never got the chance to be accepted by an American music audience at the level of Drake and Tory Lanez.
The two artists have done things worldwide that no other rappers from Toronto couldn’t do and that is survive the onslaught of an American rapper battling them. The reason being is that majority of the time there is an unwritten rule that to survive in the music industry a Toronto hip hop artist had to play it safe by not upsetting their American counterparts or their audience in fear of getting blackballed.
Tory Lanez has followed in the path of Drake in terms of reaching the top of the charts with his projects and now he has survived someone who tried to test his mettle in Joyner Lucas. Tory Lanez had a very straightforward warning to any American emcees trying to step up to Toronto artists which is surprising many people online. He says Toronto is accepting all fades, all battles, all everything.
